Q: I entered my registration code that I received when I purchased the program, but the program says it is not valid. ??
A: This is virtually always caused by a problem with the "Owner Name" for the device. As you know, you supplied an "Owner Name" when you registered; double/triple check that this matches exactly. Sometimes there will be a space at the beginning or end of the name and that will cause this problem. Also, if no "Owner Name" has been configured on the device, you will not be able to use In the Bag.
Q: How do I find (or set) the Owner Name for my device?
A: This depends on which operating system you are using.
- For Windows Mobile Standard (aka Smartphone):
- From the Start menu, choose Settings. This may be on the second page.
- In Settings, you are looking for "Owner Information". This is often on the second page; you'll probably have to select "More.." before you see it.
- Select Owner Information. The value in the "Name" field is your Owner Name.
- For Windows Mobile Professional/Classic (aka Pocket PC):
- From the Start menu, choose Settings.
- On the Personal tab, tap Owner Information.
- The value in the "Name" field is your Owner Name.
Q: How do I back up my In the Bag data from my device to my PC?
A: In the Bag's data is stored in 3 files in the \Application Data\InTheBag folder on your device. You can use Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) or Active Sync (XP) to copy these files to a backup location on your PC. The exact steps depend on whether your PC runs Vista or XP:
- On Vista:
- Connect your device to your PC.
- From Windows Mobile Device Center, choose "Browse the contents of your device" from under "File Management".
- Drill into the \Application Data\InTheBag folder.
- Drag (or copy) all files from that folder to a folder on your PC.
- On XP:
- Connect your device to your PC.
- From Active Sync, choose "Explore Device" from the Tools menu.
- Drill into the \Application Data\InTheBag folder.
- Drag (or copy) all files from that folder to a folder on your PC.
Q: What is new in v1.3 (released 12/4/09)?
A: This is a maintenance release that fixed an "out of memory" error that occurred rarely. Also, the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 is no longer bundled with the In the Bag MSI install. The .NET Compact Framework 2.0 is bundled with Windows Mobile 6 and up, so the vast majority of our users already have it. This change makes the MSI much smaller and easier to download. If you are running Windows Mobile 5 or earlier, the .NET Compact Framework can be downloaded here.
Q: The install program didn't automatically kick off an installation of In the Bag on my mobile device. Are there steps to kick off the install manually?
A: Yes, as follows:
- Cradle your device.
- Use the Explore option in Active Sync (XP) or Mobile Device Center (Vista/Windows 7) to browse the contents of your mobile device.
- Copy c:\program files\JDR Computing\In the Bag Shopping List\InTheBag.cab (assuming you took the default directory when you ran the install) onto the root directory of your device.
- On your device, open File Explorer, locate the CAB file, and tap (or select) it.
Q: Can I suggest a question for you to add to this page?
